If you’re looking to keep warm and dry this weekend why not visit Heritage House Cultural Centre in South Perth and have a look at the Historic Society’s latest Heritage Exhibition?
Held annually, the Heritage Exhibition showcases winning entries from the Phillip Pendal Young Heritage Award.
Also on display this year is a special mini-exhibition on the Chinese Market Gardeners, including a couple of original historic market garden tools from the City of South Perth’s Local History Collection.
See the flyer below for more details and visiting hours:
We had a fantastic turnout for our IntraMAPS Demo Session yesterday morning at the City’s Civic Centre.
Geographic Information Systems Analyst Ben Zeeb ran us through how to access the City’s historic aerial maps online and then showed us some of the significant changes that have taken place in the City of South Perth over time.
Here is a fun look at what we saw in the session yesterday….
Visit our Aerial Maps page for more information about the maps in the City’s Local History Collection and to find out how to access them online.
And if you have any photographs of a local area in your own personal collection, share them with us! You can either share them on the Facebook page and/or contact the local council featured and discuss including it in their collection.
The State Library of Western Australia recently launched its Heritage Online page to assist family history researchers in delving through the State Library’s historic collections of documents, diaries, photographs, cards and all other kinds of memorabilia.
Heritage Online is a Family History Subject Guide and it includes many valuable entry points for family historians as they go about their research. The menu seen below on the left hand side can be used to get to all kinds of records that are now accessible through the State Library online.
As the State Library continues to digitise its heritage collections and make them available online, this is an invaluable resource for researchers anywhere in the world as they investigate the history of their ancestors.
