The Mind’s Own Place by Ian Reid – Author Talk

After visiting the South Perth Library in 2012 to talk about his novel That Untravelled World, the South Perth Libraries are excited to be hosting another Author Talk with Ian Reid next month!

The Mind's Own Place (book cover)

“Two women and three men, displaced in difference ways by the rapid transformation of Victorian England, travel separately to a small settlement on Australia’s western rim. With them they carry social ambitions and psychological wounds. As their lives intersect in the Swan River Colony, what they encounter is not quite what they expect. Who will struggle, who will thrive, and how will they react when secrets emerge?”

Ian is the author of a dozen books including fiction, non-fiction and poetry. His latest historical fiction novel, The Mind’s Own Place, was just released this month.

Though fictional, The Mind’s Own Place is partly based on the actual experiences of historical figures. Ian will discuss his research at the Old Mill in South Perth Ian Reidwhich led to the writing of this historical detective novel.

Ian’s talk about his newly released historical novel That Untravelled World was fantastic. 20 keen historians and writers gathered over wine and cheese to hear about Ian’s approach to writing this novel and to learn some tricks of the trade. Ian also read an excerpt from the novel that focused on Perth Zoo and South Perth in the 1910’s.

Fore more information and to purchase the novel, visit UWA Publishing’s website. Copies will be available for loan through South Perth and Manning Library in the near future.
